He gardened till the day he passed, and maintained a free vegetable stand in the summers for the neighborhood to enjoy. He stopped for chats with everyone he saw on his daily walks and made countless acquaintances both human and canine. In his later years he became a well-recognized figure in his neighborhoods in both Michigan and Florida. While age is often thought to eventually make isolated curmudgeons of us all, for Jack it did quite the opposite. His most important lessons were not those explicitly taught, however, but those they learned from his example as a good man and an even better grandpa. As they grew up, Jack passed along bits and pieces of his curiously wide skill set to each of them - backyard golf lessons, wood working, fishing, gardening, lawn care, and negotiating with mechanics - to ensure they’d be functional adults. His grandchildren, Madison, Carson, and Casey, had their biggest fan in the crowd at every sporting event, musical performance, graduation, and celebration. When Chauntel married and had her three children, Jack took to being a father-in-law and grandfather with the same enthusiasm and devotion. He was the most loving and supportive father a girl could ever hope to have and was one of her very best friends. He taught Chauntel to work hard, to love what you do and do what you love, and to love your people well. In 1970, they welcomed their daughter, Chauntel, and fatherhood became the great joy of Jack’s life.

Together they built a remarkable life and a love spanning 68 beautiful years. Few couples appear at first glance as oddly matched as Jack and Quita, but their distinctly different personalities were in fact the perfect complements. Despite initially putting her off with his “bad boy” demeanor, Jack eventually won her over with his sense of humor and (allegedly) excellent dance moves. During these early years in Michigan, Jack met the love of his life, Laquita. In Michigan, Jack worked at Checker Cab and Kalamazoo Stove Company before joining Allied Paper Company, where he would spend the next 37 years of his career as an elevator repairman. They landed in Michigan where Jack would build his life and legacy. At 16, Jack and his brother Gene boarded a Greyhound bus to strike out on their own. He was born Septemin Fitzhugh, Arkansas, the son of Joseph and Agnes (Masters) Stone. The 20-year-old is unlikely to be starved of chances on the evidence of the first two matchdays so hopes will be high surrounding him being the missing piece of the puzzle.James “Jack” Burless Stone passed away peacefully Friday, May 12, 2023. Hojlund should back himself, when the players around him are creating opportunities, to bag a few goals this season. Clearly the problem does not revolve around United's creativity, rather their lack of a cutting-edge up top. This statistic should create optimism, particularly for Hojlund. Only Brighton and Hove Albion, who thrashed both Luton Town and Wolves managed to create more. Fortunately, there is a ray of optimism which can be gleaned once we take a look at the statistics from the opening fixtures.Īccording to statistician Statman Dave, United have created a whopping 32 chances over the course of two matches. Therefore, the hope of Hojlund's return to full-match fitness has grown. Marcus Rashford has filled in the centre-forward role during the opening two matches but it is clear the position is not his strength. Instead, he has had to watch on from the stands as pundits and fans alike lamented the lack of a No.9 in the squad. Having joined from Atalanta this summer, the Dane has yet to feature for the Reds due to injury.ĪLSO READ: Shearer and Lineker's advice to Hojlund ahead of United debut

In the days that have followed, we have seen a growing concern about the pressure which Rasmus Hojlund may now find himself under. Despite having some of the best moments during the game, United fell to a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham. Last weekend, the Reds' luck officially ran out. The visitors were even unlucky not to come away with a point due to Andre Onana making several good saves and could have been punished for his late challenge on Sasa Kalajdzic in the box. Opening weekend victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers was a tough watch with United struggling to break down a team in turmoil. Even the most optimistic Manchester United fan will have struggled to raise a smile from the opening two matches of the Premier League season.
